After still not being able to get a statement out of West Brom to confirm balance of Star Easy Access account, I rang today (again) and was told that their online facility will be available in 6 to 8 weeks' time.

It depends who you speak to at the West Brom.

They've been planning to offer an online facility for well over a year now (according to some staff). Several proposed launch dates have come and gone. I get a feeling that they're doing it because practically everyone else has - but they're not too keen.

I think it will have to happen eventually, but I'll believe it when it arrives. :rolleyes:

This is the latest I’ve received on the "will they, won't they" introduce online banking, despite the fact that one of their members of staff told me they’d be introducing it in 6 weeks time (that was the 7 May).

"We still do not offer online banking. When it becomes available it will not be for existing accounts, a new WEBSAVE account will have to be applied for, please see our webpage for details of this new account".

So even IF it arrives, they are only introducing the equivalent of what the likes of Britannia currently offer (which is somewhat below customer expectations).

If much, MUCH smaller building societies are able to implement at least online account viewing facilities for all their accounts, surely there isn't much of an excuse for the larger societies not to pull themselves into the 21st century and avoid further embarrassment.
