I was looking for temporary insurance for a car on my drive, that I do not want to sell, but need to have it serviced, so looking for 1 days cover, I went first through my broker "hard work" because I have five cars on cover with Aviva ,I thought ring then direct, it took about 15 minutes to sort, because they did a lot of research, Jake then told me that the regulations had changed, and you can drive a "UNINSURED" car
if it is taxed & MO Ted on your own existing policy's, but cover is for third party only..... Good old Aviva, not trying to screw an existing client just being absolutely fantastic and giving tremendous service ...Full mark s to them! and thanks to Jake on their staff for the time he took.:j:T

Good old Jake could have landed you with a no insurance conviction and if you had an accident a big bill.

You mention the car belonged to you, so under Aviva Direct's policy it would be excluded

"We will insure you whilst you are driving
any other car within the territorial limits
    providing:
the car does not belong to you or is
not hired to you under a hire purchase
    agreement,"

The policy through a broker has a similar wording

We will insure you while you are
driving any other car within Great
    Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel
Islands and the Isle of Man providing the car does not belong to you or
is not hired to you under a hire

It might also be worth you reading this as well http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/travel/2011/05/now-you-must-have-car-insurance

Good old Jake could not have been more wrong, I hope you reread this post and ring Aviva as this guy and also his superior who by the sounds of it he referred to seriously need some training

So that law is finally in then.

At least the only car I have uninsured has no tax, no number plate, no vin and no v5, so I'm ok there.

And I'm pleased to see in that article that Martin appears to have his eye on auto renewals now as well.

What do you mean by that, exactly? He mentions them. I can't see a campaign against them on the horizon.
