A new Debt free wannabe

  • Butcher,

Another newbie to the board here. Read through your plan, nay, your manifesto (!) and I am really encouraged by your pro-activeness to pay off your debt regardless of how much you are paying off. The longest journey starts with a single step - and other such cliches!

This is my first post on the forum and whilst my debts are not as large I will use your great example to help get rid of my debts over the next couple of years.

    Thanks for your comments!

Went and weighed myself on Saturday and I have lost a stone :D

If I manage to stick to that, a stone a month sounds good :T

  • Okies, so I know I havnt posted in a little while. I should have posted a July update but I was on holiday from work so was in a particular lazy mood

But here goes with the August update.....

    Debt down to £27779.64!

I did have a large personal spend in July. My football season ticket  but I had budgeted for this and it was paid in cash and not credit ;) and for some reason I managed to pay the most I have ever paid to my credit cards that month :j I did get a bit of "overtime" so I guess that money went further than I thought it would. I did redeem some survey points and got some money through paypal too.

The walking/weight loss took a bit of a "blip" during July too :embarasse I was on holiday and other ppl I work with were on holiday so I had to take a van home for a couple of weeks, wouldnt have managed to do the "overtime" if I didnt have the van tho :p But I am very firmly back to the walking and will head down to weigh myself on Saturday morning to see if i have shifted my "holiday blip" weight.

Need to start thinking ahead for September tho. Have my car insurance to renew  Will have to shop around and see what kind of prices I can get.

Might pop back during the weekend if the weighing machine is kind to me :o

Well done Butcher - its great when you see the figures coming down even if it does seem to be slow.

Yeah. I knew that progress would be slow to begin with. But my debt was reducing by around £100 per month. Now it seems its around £250. Soon it will be £300 then £350 then £400 yada yada yada.

The good thing is, that I know that I can mantain the levels that I am currently paying. So I'm thinking from the start of 2009 I should start to see some real movement in the debt! Downwards!!! :T

    Hi Butch,

Use the comparison sites Martin suggests (insurance tab above) to find the cheapest deal on your car insurance and then remember to sign up to one of the cashback sites (topcashback etc) and apply for that deal through this site to get a cashback sum!:T

I read somewhere on the MSE site that one guy got maore back in cashback than he paid for the insurance - I think he MADE £67!!!:rotfl:

    More money for the debts!

    hi butcher,
agree with others about getting cash back. last time i renewed I not only got my insurance £60 cheaper, I also got £30 cashback too. Result! ok so the cashback does take a while to come through, but it is worth it in the long run.

Don't forget about ebay/amazon for extra spends if you have stuff/books to sell. Or doing car boots

Well done Butcher, you are moving in the right direction, just got to keep going.

I just got a similar deal with Orange £10 per month rolling contract with 300tects & 150 calls per month. Looked like a really good deal as I was spending over £33 per month.

I would have suggested calling SKY as well, but I guess your parents deal with that cost.
Might be worth posting your SOA just to see if anyone can cut back your expenses anywhere?

Good luck for the future, keep using this site, it certainly keep you motivated.

    xx
