A new Debt free wannabe

Time to finally get this debt sorted out. After years of the "I will worry about it tomorrow" syndrome, I really need to get this sorted.
I guess I looked upon it as "I'm only young once" and I tried to enjoy it as much as possible and I spose I did at the time. Now I need to deal with the after effects
£28593.27
I'm not including my car finance in that as thats not really a problem. 3 credit cards that I have used rather badly over the years to fund my social life basically.
When the debts started to build up and were becoming a little too much for me to handle I started to cut back. The biggest sacrifice I made was moving back home
. That obviously freed up quite a lot of money but instead of concentrating on paying off the debts, I got used to having some cash in my pocket again for a while. I have seen the error of my ways now though. I want out from underneath this cloud.
I have already started cutting back on the little things where I used to just waste money on and am going to try and concentrate on getting as much to the credit cards as possible.
Not had as much as a shandy in 2 weeks now. Not that I went out often but I would like a few beers in the house. Been saving my change for a while now, not going to count or bank it until my bottle is full. Also been doing the online survey's for a while now too. So have been getting a little additional income from them and after reading a bit more of the forum I have applied to a few of the Mystery shopper organisations.
Walking to work instead of taking the car. Which kind of leads into another area which I am trying to work on also, I want to lose some weight
.
Will pop back frequesntly on how I am doing. Good luck to everyone else working on reducing their debts :T

Just to get the ball rolling I was just on the phone to my mobile phone operator.
I was on a £25 per month tariff but I dont really use my mobile all that much. I wasnt too sure when my contract was up for renewal so i phoned up to enquire. Turns out it was due for renewal at the end of this month.
Now on a £10 per month contract with 75 minutes and 125 texts per month rolling contract which is ample for me.
£15 per month extra towards the credit cards :j0 -

Hi Butcher,
Despite being scary - it's quite an epiphany when you realise that you can tackle your debts and that the world's not going to come crashing down around you. And respect for 'jumping' rather than being pushed! You'll find loads of inspiration and advice on these forums - I think they are quite a life saver for a lot of people.
All the best and good luck in your quest!DFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

o2 - New tariff should be active in 48 hours or so( I was an existing o2 customer)
Thanks for your words blimus
You are quite correct about the lots of useful hints and tips available to everyone. So much so that I should have around £47 winging its way to me shortly for some old mobile phones I had laying around. (Cex offered way above the rest in my case.)

Hi Butcher :hello:
Do you want to pop up a SoA for us to have a look at? It can help enormously I found - also try the snowball calculator at www.whatsthecost.com to work out your debt free date - it's a great motivator as you can see how much difference an extra few pound each month can make.

Well thats my first week over.
My personal spend this week (Day to day money, excluding bills) has been £5.13
£3.08 of that was postage to send my old mobile phones to Cex.
Home for lunches all week as, lets face it, we all have something in the house that we could have for lunch rather than buying especially.
I have been accepted as a mystery shopper, just need to complete the application and get started
Part 2 of my "new me" mission has been going well too. I think with walking to work and the extra long walk I had yesterday I have covered about 18 miles approx for the week :T. Had a looooong walk yesterday, about 6 miles in total , down to Boots so that I could weigh myself. Very pleasantly surprised with the results.
Roll on next week! Bring it on!0 -
Well done with all the walking, you'll loose that weight in no time.
Glad youve had a good start to the week and are making progress on your dfw ways.
Why not pop your SOA so we can all have a look and see if we can recommend anything.:j Live on £4500, £2531/£4500:T 101 in 1001 (52/101):j:beer::j

Just a little update.
Debt on the credit cards is down this month to 28319.35. Not a huge amount off, but its a start. Slow, steady progress for the remainder of this year and hopefully start blitzing it next year.
Received my cheque from Cex. A little less than expected but I guess it was because I didnt have one of the boxes of one of the phones I sent  Still, the money I did get will go towards the credit cards this month.
Got my first mobile phone bill after changing my tariff. Got a surprise when the bill said I was in credit .75p :T Only thing I can think of is because that I changed contract mid-month. I'm not about to phone them and query it unless there has been an error. £10 better off going towards my debts than O2's pocket :rotfl:
Still collecting the small change and still doing the survey's.
Not weighed myself for a little while but I have been keeping reasonably good. Think I will be heading out and about this weekend so will pop down and use the machine.
Been keeping the personal spending to the bare minimum. Usually under £5 a week!
Think that about covers things. Will report in again soon0 -
