Dog boarding fees paid in advance

Having paid £260.00 for dog kennel fees whilst my wife and I were to be on holiday I unfortunately sustained a broken ankle and therefore the holiday had to be cancelled. the fees were paid some three weeks in advance and as yet we still have not received either a reciept or the terms and conditions of boarding We contacted the owner of the kennels who point blank refused to refund any money at all.
We have tried to negotiate with the kennels offering to pay £60.00 but at the time of writing they are insisting on keeping the full ammount
We are pensioners on fixed incomes and can ill afford to lose that amount of money.
Is there any way that we may beable to recover the money or at least part of it.
Any help and advise would be gratefully received

I think it is unusual to pay in advance most places you pay a deposit and the balance when you collect your pooch.

Do you have holiday insurance? Because if the worst happens then you could claim if the policy allows.

Did you pay on credit card? They may help in this kind of dispute.

But really I would be trying to establish their terms and conditions and as they have entered into a contract with you, you need to ask them in writing to forward them to you. If they have a website check it out because their t and c's may be on there.

Beward do not pay up front in future and especially when you have not seen their conditions. If only for your dog's sake because you would need to understand what their policy would be should your dog become ill!!

  • sometimes pet insurance policies protect against this eventuality. do you have insurance - if so check anything referring to boarding fees. As poster above says this is unusual - I always paid a deposit then paid up after the holiday when collecting the pet.

    Hello
Thank you both for your replies, Sadly we have neither pet insurance nor holiday insurance as our holiday was to visit relatives in Canada. The boarding fee was paid for by cheque
As i write we are still awaiting a receipt for our money and also the terms and conditions of boarding.
We have also taken advise from citizens Advice they have suggested a further letter to the kennels giving them a fixed time to pay and then take the case to the small claims court at the time of writing we are still awaiting a reply.
    Thank you

    Hello Jack

Very sorry to hear that the situation is so difficult for you, we are business people in the construction and property improvement industry and we really cannot bear to hear that you have been treated so badly. Good luck to you, and I hope that you get your money back.

    Take care

Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?
