Audible free trial BEWARE - they have stolen from me

I signed up for Audible.co.uk on a free trial. I then canceled it. I had a nice email confirmation saying my account would be canceled as of 28th of April.

On the 30th of April they charged me £7.99 for "monthly fee".

What do I do now? I tried emailing them and no-one has gotten back to me. Don't want to spend £££ on my mobile calling them to get the money back. But surely they can't just steal money from people.

Always cancel the direct debit with your bank, that way payments never get taken after u cancel ;)

Although I gave Nationwide a list of direct debits to cancel when I went to NZ, including a special instruction about the one to my internet company* and, sure enough, they cancelled all of them!

    * I'd asked them if they could take the payment for their just mail package as a direct debit.

    good idea ,,same here

    BUT

recently I have noticed a couple of companies who set it back up without asking!!?? so keep and eye on things,,,preferably with online banking.

Smile (coop) bank allow you to cancel a payment that was taken that day... its saved me a few times

Just thought as well..... THE DIRECT DEBIT GUARANTEE!

call your bank and tell them the situation and tell them you want the amount reversed and that you will help there investigations if required
    PLAY GOOD!

trolls and abusers will simply be added to my ignore list - you can do it too! its under USER CP

    Audible are rubbish!

    |I signed up to them in about Dec 07/Jan 08. They tried to charge me £8, in four lots of £2, even DURING the trial, before I'd even downloaded anything. Then they denied they had charged me at all! They said they had no record of either my trial or card details, even though my bank told me who had tried to take the money. Luckily I'd used a credit card, not direct debit, and Nationwide somehow noticed that it was unauthorised and stopped the transactions before they went through.

I'd contact your bank and explain what's happened. Also phone Audible; as you have the email confirmation that the trial was cancelled then they should refund the charge straight away.

eMusic also tried to charge £1 to my card during my trial period. Again, I had never downloaded anthing. I now steer well clear of any company that asks me for card details for a free trial- I figure even if they were genuine mistakes I don't want a company that badly organised to have my bank details!

If you cancelled on 28th, the payment for the 30th would have already been in the system (you generally need to cancel a DD 5 days before it's due to make sure it doesn't come out). You can still ask your bank to claim it back through the DD guarantee, if you didn't use the service for that month.
