Remote Control Light Switch

Is there such a thing? Scenario: I have only one light switch for my main living room light and it's about 15 feet from the front door. It means fumbling across the room in the dark and turning the light on.To run a second switch would mean all kinds of upheaval which I can do without. I've been making do with a table lamp just by the front door.

Is there such a thing as a remote light switch? I could have the remote by the front door and this would control the switch via infrared or UHF or something?

TIA

  • B&Q do dimmers that can be controlled by a TV remote - or they sell a remote for about £10 to match them I think. Variety of finishes, e.g.

Yes, there certainly are. I sourced one from https://www.maplin.co.uk recently for a friend's elderly mother and, although I've not seen them myself, he says it's fantastic. From memory, they're about £25.

    EDIT: Here they are...

Then get yourself one of these http://www.quemex.co.uk/ - sorted..
  • Yes, got one from b & q £25, tv remote switches on and off and also acts as a dimmer, i am really pleased with it, no more having to get out of bed to turn the lights off.
  • Also seen a light fitting with a ceiling fan that works by remote too. Have a disabled friend who uses one.

Don't suppose you've still got the instructions have you? Got one ages ago but then had a power cut....may have to tear open one in my local store...

I think i might still have them somewhere, i will try and look them out for you.
  • I bought one years ago, think it might have been from Argos, it came with a wall bracket for mounting the remote which acts as another switch across the room, I recently wanted another one but cant seem to find one similar
