can my dd get dla for her raynuards phenomenon

my dd is 15 and gets very bad daily attacks of raynuards , she becomes breathless and has poor circulation, her feet pulsate and get very hot when standing, she is home educated as she could not keep up with the pace of daily school life, but otherwise is fine, we have expensive heating bills though as she needs to stay warmer that 19 degrees, and she was wondering if she could get the dla ( she wants to help with heating bills) what a sweet teenager !!

    Hi mrs pepperpot,

    Welcome to the Benefits board!

DLA looks at how a person's health condition(s) affect their day to day living, and what help they require as a result of this condition.

As a starting point, there is an overview of DLA here. If you did want to apply, you can get help completing the (very long!) form at CAB or through a Welfare Rights Specialist (some councils have them).

If you want to ask anything else, feel free x

    Hi,

My son has reynauads syndrome too, he also has downs syndrome. We receive the DLA care component because of his downs, we also receive the highest mobility component due to the reynauds. During the warmer weather he is normally not too bad, but during the winter his hands, feet and legs go really blue and it makes walking any sort of distance a real struggle. So, it sounds as though she should qualify for DLA, remember when filling out the form to fill it out as a worse day scenario, and if they do reject it the first time keep trying!

I believe that Reynard's can affect dexerity? In which case, I have experience claiming, so if you want to ask anything or PM me please do.

Worst day - so cold and stiff, could she cook a meal for herself from scratch? Can she turn taps on? Can she wash and dry her hair? These are the kinds of things that the Welfare Officer said to me to think about and it was only then we realised how far we'd adapted the house without really knowing we had, for example, we have a massive handle on the shower because I can't turn it and we've always had a water filter which has a press button so I don't have to fight with taps.

    Hope that helps :)
