Buying or renting in Sandwich

Hi all,
Can anyone tell me about Sandwich please? We're contemplating a move there fairly soon for my husband's job and, although we've both lived in Kent before, we know nothing about this particular area. We would really like a fairly quiet area but also need good transport links (as I don't drive). What are the nice areas? Where should we avoid?
Many thanks
