Anyone got any experience of these travelodges? Im going with a friend for 4 days in July and both of these are coming up cheapest.

Travelodge London City road is a brand new hotel whilst Travelodge Aldgate East used to be a Comfort Inn that has been changed to a Travelodge.
Both hotels are really nice. I would however make my decision on what you plan to do in London first and then decide which one suits you...

Thanks. Booked the City Road one today. They were both pretty good location wise and City Road was just that wee bit cheaper.

It is policy with Travellodge to overbook. So don't arrive late cos you might not have a room

The City Road is very nice. Minimalistic but new and clean. Your nearest tube is Old St, only about 5 mins away. Can't remember which exit you take, worth looking it up as it's easy to turn the wrong way and you can't see the Lodge from the station.

That won't work Emma - all their receptionists wear crash helmets!

Can I just add, having stayed quite a bit recently, if you don't mind being high up, ask for a room on a high floor.

Reason being is that a lot of the low floors look out onto some sort of central column which in effect means you're staring at the side of a building which makes it feel even more minimilist and dark!!

For some reason I found the rooms on the high floors felt much nicer with at least some sort of view and the layout was slightly different in the ones I stayed in.

Breakfast is pretty good too.....usual help yourself buffet!

As a matter of interest where do you stand legally if there is "No Room At The Inn". Can you find alternative accommodation and sue Travelodge for the difference.
