Honeymooning - tips for getting free stuff/upgrades?

Hello,

I should have posted before but I've been too busy - got married on Monday and off on honeymoon to Sardinia tomorrow.

Loads of people keep saying to us that we should exploit the fact we're on honeymoon to get free stuff and upgrades and I just wondered whether any MSE'rs have tried with success? We are going with Holiday Options and flying out with Thomsons from Gatwick.

Many thanks in advance for tips!

We got the upper penthouse suite of the SIgnature suites of the MGM Grand by telling them we were there to get married so I suppose it can work. I don't think the rooms cost more, they are just more desirable because of the amazing view.

When booking our honeymoon with an independant travel agent, I mentioned it was for a honeymoon.

In 4 of the 5 hotels we stayed in there had been some gesture made (either flowers, bottle of bubbly, sea view room & in one case an upgrade to a private villa in the hotels grounds).

However, I think these upgrades were in large due to using a small independant who in turn was using small independant hotels who he had a good relationship with.

I think you would have been better off telling them when you booked - other than that just tell the people who check you onto your flight and into your room that you are on your honeymoon and see what they do for you!

Thanks for the tips so far, First Choice are aware its a Honeymoon so you never know, although so far all they've managed to do is mess it up so I won't hold my breath !

Anyone else got any good tips please?

    Many thanks

  • don't wear mr and mrs t shirts or t shirts with just married or baseball caps or badges.....had to check a few of these in when I worked on the BWIA contract to the caribbean, thing is loads of people were honeymooners/going to get married so it was hard to accomodate everyone but I would personally always put in a downline message so it made it to the crew that they were honeymooners and think they normally got a congrats message and some bubbly, but rest assured the ones with the above on with pics of themselves on just made us more determined to ignore it, goes without saying just be polite, mention it in passing and dont wave the wedding certificate before the passports or tickets lol

    have a great time :)
