Over the last few days I have taken lots of usefull information from this site to help me lower my phone bill. My plan is
1- Keep BT option 1 (direct debit) for line rental
2- Use a CPS for free weekend calls
3- use a Overide Provider such as 1899/18185 for for cheaper calls where possible
4- then later on try an orchid dialler
One problem
Do CPS providers block calls to Overide Providers?
Both Onetel and talk-talk offer free weekend calls with no charge to use them as your CPS. If I sign up to one and then use them only for weekend calls they wont be making any money. So I thought maybe they would add a cost to phoning 1899 or 18185, now or in the future.
Can anyone tell me I am wrong. I dont want to go ahead and sign up then look stupid. While I'm at it, have I missed anythingh else in my plan that should be obvious?

Welcome.
Providing you pay your line rental to BT and not to TalkTalk or OneTel then neither TalkTalk or OneTel can stop you from using override providers like Call18866/1899, etc.
If you are also thinking of paying linerental to TalkTalk as well then although they (TalkTalk/OneTel, etc) may not currently block it they can do so in the future.
It is currently better to keep paying line rental to BT and you are ok because ONLY BT has to allow access to other providers and can't stop you. Non-BT landline providers can block access if they want.
Plus you get free caller display as well.0 -
I have used 18866 and am signed up to talktalk, so no problems there
|Although I do remember in one of their "special deals" , it stated something like " only available if using Talktalk for all your calls", but they don't seem to block itAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
They can only block it if you switch your line rental to them.If they did in fact bring this into practice and block the short code In the case of 1899 you could probaly use the 0808 freephone access and avoid this, and still pay the same tariff.
You appear to have overlooked the opportunity of getting your evening calls for free as well.See https://www.justdialsaver.com ,or https://www.tele2.co.uk (thisTele2 offer is supposed to end in Dec 2005.)PF.0
