Cheap website design

Options
Hi,

I am thinking of starting my own business and require a web site. I have a very low budget and wondered if anyone has had any experience of overseas website designers. Also thinking of putting advert up at local Uni....... any thoughts or recommendations most welcome.

Thanks

I have used scriptlance.com in the past. Tips. make sure the designers have an extensive portfolio of their own work and not just templates. Look for lots of good feedback. Chat to the designer over PM first before comitting to any work. Get them to state a date when the work will be finished.

Ensure your project is described well to avoid project creep whereby you come up with more ideas after the price is agreed for the job.

try posting on rentacoder and elance.com. Both are places for web designers from around the world. You can see feedback from previous clients before accepting any provider. Usually you pay 50% upfront. Make sure you are very clear as to what you want on your website - there's some great designers but some find it difficult to understand unless you spell out very clearly what you want!
You can also try digitalpoint forum under buy/sell and designers. There's some good people on there but maybe more a risk than elance or rentacoder.

Hiring in outside help will never be really cheap, if your only after a simple website then why not learn the basics yourself? there are hundreds of websites out there that offer free learning tips and aid
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.
  • Hi,
have you looked at instant site at 123reg? I made my site there and I get over 100 views a day. It is a simple way to make a site as you get what you type so no need to learn code.
    very cheap too.
    good luck!

Just checked and the OP has not posted anything since the 7th May, so maybe has not seen all the recent advice. All good stuff and I guess it is of appeal to a fair few people.

I've recommended this company before, absolute no brainer, it's Brinkster. I've a simple web site running for years. No ads, free domain name (it's https://www.yourname.brinkster.net) it's simple to set up, my web site's always available and I haven't paid a cent. Not sure how they do it, but it's great. Also be aware that some free hosting/web site companies host large amounts of adult !!!!!!. Not a problem just can mean that the domain and IP addresses are blocked or flagged as adult. As far as I know Brinkster don't do this, so no problems there either.
