OKay - does this mean that I should stop watering my tomato plants?Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0

Based on what it says on the site I'd say yes
As you can see, they don't need sunshine to ripen them so I guess it's just time. Otherwise you could pick some and put them in a drawer with a banana as has been suggested and see which ones ripen firstest and fastestHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I have scalped all the leaves off my tomato plants about 10 days ago, I now have a glut of ripened tomatoes, once the leaves are off the plant's water resources and energies turn towards the fruit and not the leaves, so get chopping back the leaves being careful not to take off the tomatoes. Leaves have all been composted of coursePay all debts by Xmas 12 # 072 £1201.79/£15,105.68:eek:

It has been a lot colder here in the north this week and a colleague gleefully announced that we may get our first overnight frost this weekend. If that happens will my unripe tomatoes be ruined if I leave them outside?
Shall I take of the tomatoes now, or risk it and wait for them to ripen?

I'd take them off if theres a chance of frost and you can't cover them with cloches.0

OK, I've taken most of the leaves off my tom plants and brought them inside. Done the same with my courgettes and pepper plant although I've pretty much given up on the peppers - don't think it'll be warm enough now. Oh well. Can't bring in the cherry toms so will put them as close as poss to the house and hope for the best. Keeping my fingers crossed!0

Has anyone got a good recipe for green tomato chutney (or anything else that involves green tomatoes). I've not had 1 red tom and the one I took off to experimentally ripen with a banana is remaining stubbornly green. I am a little cross! Can't really bring then in unless I put them in the kitchen, I suppose that may be an option.0

My tomatoes have gone mad this year, been giving them away to everybody I know, I've just picked a large bag full and still have plenty almost ripe. When it gets to the "back end" I cut off the whole branch and put them in the shed , they usually ripen eventually, I had some at Christmas last year. I've got Gardener's delight which are lovely and sweet, Roma whch is a plum variety and great for cooking. I have Tumbling Tom in the hanging baskets but we're not too keen on those. I shall grow Tumbler next year.0

Just to clarify, do I take my green tomatoes off my plant which grows outside in the garden (not in a grow bag, just in the soil). Just put them in a brown paper bag with a banana, and leave them for how long to ripen to red?keep smiling,
