Can somebody please help as I am ready to tear out my hair. I am wanting to compare gas/electric and ready to leave Scottish Power if need be. The problem is with comparing I have tried both Moneysupermarket and energyhelpline and both advise I go to to N Power but with totally different cash saving amounts. £600 and £317. This really cannot be right.
It is I think, incredibly difficult to get a fair comparison unless you have figures from the past year of usage in front of you. I have had paperless bills for the last year and am struggling to locate them all on line.
Can anybody add any further help? Many Thanks:confused:

Unless you have your consumption in kWh it is not possible to get an accurate figure.

Bear in mind that the sole purpose of these comparison networks is to get you to change supplier if possible. They work on commission and that is what drives them.

Entering ££££s gives them the ability to 'fudge' results simply because it is not possible to give an accurate figure.

Hi thanks for your reply, and yes how I agree with you. I too think its almost impossible to compare accurately without like for like figures. I do however think (being the operative word!) I worked out my KWh.
For my Electric it was the straightforward adding up of units used for one year. For the gas however I tweaked with the yearly reading as mentioned in another post to convert my cubic ft to KWh. It was then that two sites when comparing gave two totally different figures with the same company which was N Power. I am so keen to compare and change if necessary buts its just so frustrating to do!! Any other ways I could try to be sure it would be for the better? Thanks again.

Hi, Npower have recently (last week I think) brought out a new tariff, Sign online 11, this replaces Sign online 10. It is possible one of your switching sites had not been updated to the new tariff, check which tariffs they were recommending for you.

Hi Notbritishgas, thanks for the reply.
That would certainly help in my search for the 'none confusing' comparisan change of gas/Electric. I am off to look shortly and fingers crossed thats the reason and I can go ahead with true'ish' figures.

    kgldsun,

Sorry to hear of the confusion caused by the savings figures shown on Moneysupermarket.com and Energyhelpline.com.

This should certainly not happen as both comparison sites use the same data provided directly by the energy provider.

At MS.com we strive to ensure we provide the most comprehensive and accurate comparison available. By doing so, it is our aim to ensure all customers can make an informed decision as to whether or not they should change energy tariff/provider.

In order to assist you further please either email me direct or call our customer service team on 0845 345 1296.

    Kind regards,

I understand using the KWh figures will be more accurate and that is what I am using. When the sites then calculate how much my annual bill is are they doing that based just on the current rate today and therefore this figure is higher than my previous year's combined bills as the rate was lower during parts of the year? If my thinking is correct can I therefore assume that the 'savings' are based on the potential new suppliers rates for a year too and thus it is really a snapshot of today multiplied up over a 'year'?
