Hi
Its possible that I may be pregnant, and I was just thinking ahead, (have had a miscarriage previous, so may not work out)
At the mo, I am a single parent with 2 girls, aged 5 & nearly 10, but if i am pregnant will want to move in with my boyfreind.
We both work and I would work right up to my due date and then have 3 months off, hopefully with maternity pay?. At the mo our joint income would total to £28,656 Gross.
The cheapest rent I can find in our area is £750 PCM
I have been on entitledto and we would get £10.50 weekly tax credits
My question is, if I am pregnant, and we move in together, would I be entitled to housing benefit/ council tax benefit?
Many thanks and kindest regards

If you did it correctly, it means that you are not entitled. It does not list the benefits that you are not entitled to. It may also be worth double checking on the benefits calculator of your local authority, as I find this tends to be more accurate xGone ... or have I?0 -
Hi
Well thats the weird thing, on my local councils site, it say's that I am entitled to £126.90 housing benefit and £14.26 council tax benefit per week. But I am not sure if it is definately right, as I get less now as a working single parent?0 -
That does seem an awful lot based on an income of £28K.
Does the £28K include tax credits, child benefit etc?
Can you give a full breakdown of your income? xGone ... or have I?0 -
Thanks for all your help dmg24
I think it must be wrong, I can't remember what I entered into the website now (doh!) I just have noted the outcomes.
from what i can work out, we would be on the following income;
tax credits - £10.50 week
Child Benefit - £43.90 week
joint wages (after tax & NI )- £465.77
TOTAL - £520.17 - week
So we probably wouldn't get any help with housing benefit?0 -

£520.17pw clear is a lot of money (£2254pm)
On that kind of income i'd be very very surprised if you did. You will certainly not get any CT benefit.
Are you in receipt of HB and CTB at the moment being 'single'?0 -

Entitledto appears to be having a bad day, and is showing that you are entitled to £2000 a week in benefits, so we can discount that one!
Do you know how much you will be getting during your maternity leave? It may be that you are entitled to LHA just for a short period of time.
real1314 is a whizz with HB/ LHA calculations, and will be able to give you a definite figure - hopefully they will be along soon to advise

If in doubt, claim anyway. Be honest with the figures and let the council decide.0

Hi Mitchaa, thanks for your reply and Yes I get a little help with HB at the mo.
Dmg24, thanks for your help, I haven't got a clue how much maternity pay I would be entitled to, I imagine my employer wouldn't be able to pay it as she runs a small company, so I think it would have to be Statutory Maternity Pay, not sure how it all works, but i think they give me 90% of my normal earnings (90% of £128 per week gross)
Thanks Conor, I think i won't get any HB, but yes i may as well try - you never know. thanks0
