Avoid Rotherwood!

Options
Watched this site for ages - never been angry enough to post anything til now!!!!
Rotherwood is an upmarket furniture store, (nice stuff, I have to say) where we ordered a tv unit. 10th January, that was, and the delivery time was 10 - 12 weeks.

Here I am, 6th May, SEVENTEEN weeks on. Still waiting.

I've had every excuse in the book - rough seas, high winds, the container going to the wrong port, customs holding it up, the van breaking down... the latest is that it's ready for delivery. That was 8 days ago - got that phone call and paid the balance same day to facilitate delivery... I can't stand much more!

I know the receipt says it isn't a time of the essence contract, but every day I wait now, I think they're taking the mickey.

They say they'll get back to you - they don't.

But as I've paid the balance now (only because I was told it would speed up delivery) I guess I'm stuck waiting. BUT I'M TRYING TO SAVE THE REST OF YOU!

And if you were thinking of ordering from them, at least think twice. And check out this site - https://www.oakfurnitureland.co.uk - they have really good stuff, solid oak, the three week lead time was actually 8 days - and free delivery (Rotherwood charge £40 to come a five minute drive!)

I'm writing a letter, but I bet I don't get a reply. Won't be recommending them!

I think you fell for a fast one by paying the balance because it would 'speed up delivery'. In your letter, you need to state that 'time is now the essence of the contract' since you have made full payment, and give them a date (e.g 7 days from receipt of letter) to deliver the furniture, otherwise they will be considered in breach of contract. Make sure you send the letter by recorded delivery.

Think you're right... but on the botom of my receipt last night, I spotted some little words which said " Delivery will be made within 7 days of Rotherwood receiving the order." Even allowing for the Bank holiday, this is day 9. Going to phone them up this morning and make my demands! Letter going tonight if I don't get the right answer!

So I phoned. Calmly growled that they were now clearly in breach of contract, that I wanted delivery by Friday and wasn't accepting any further excuses. An hour later, the distribution centre phoned, said they'd deliver on Friday. Unit's just been sitting in the warehouse for the last week... Letter of complaint ready to post - as soon as TV unit arrives! :j

Unit arrived safely. Distribution centre more on the ball than Rotherwood! Letter of complaint sent, but not really expecting an answer...
