Timer on storage heaters?

Is it possible to fit timed on off switches to storage heaters and if so where do you get them from?

The problem arises from my office which is heated by storage heaters, they have an on off switch at the wall which is fine for this time of year.

But the office isnt used at the weekend and I wondered if it would be possible to set them on a 7 day timer so they wouldnt heat up on Friday evenings and Saturday evenings which in broad terms would save 2/7 of the off peak bill in winter.

They are 3.4 kW.

Any ideas

It is a fairly simple job for an electrician to fit a programable timer.

Any electrical factor would have them - you will need a heavy duty one to cope with the power.

These days a job like that will need to be done by a certified electrician.

You are probably talking a couple of hundred pounds, for parts and labour, which will mean a long payback time.

This suggestion could be a total non-starter, but make sure you actually get charged a cheap-rate overnight! (And the heaters are not just on a timeclock already to spread the load throughout the day)

My (probably wrong - but worth a mention) logic being, from what I have read, E7 is only available to domestic and "small" commercial/business customers - so there is a (small and probably unlikely) chance you have storage heaters but no E7!

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.
