Thanks Tom. The timing of Rocks collapse sucks as they had a very imformative user forum that has also bit the dust but I'm going to try swapping memory - hopefully there are two dimms to swop around to see if one is duff.0

no joy on the memory front - there were two dimms so I removed one, then the other, tried them in different positions, all to the same effect...0
