I want a BT code

Sorry dont know what this is called but on our line we have a block which stops national and mobile calls. To activate it you put a code into the phone and then to deactvate it you put another code it, with stars or hashes at either end.

I have managed to loose my bit of paper with my codes on, although I still know what my pin is. Does anyone know what the sequence is?

I tried ringing BT tonight but couldnt get through to a human.

(We had visitors for the first 2 weeks in August so the code was off and then we bought a cordless phone which I really hate so the code was not put back on. In the meantime my daughter has been running amuck with the phone, mostly it now seems to live in her bedroom and the bill this month will be massive. So the code has to go on and stay on :( I suspect my daughter is also the reason why my crib sheet is missing)

The facility you are referring to is known as Call Barring.

The code you enter to block and unblock depends on which type of calls you want blocking. Assuming you use BT then it can be read here (look under the call barring page).

If you wish to cancel any call barring then a PIN number is required and if you cant remember what this is then you have to contact BT i'm afraid.

why don't you get a stand alone dialer and call bar your phone yourself. I do it all the time and I don't have to rely on a client server like Orchid.

  • Most teenagers I know seem incapable of talking to each other. They would rather text, either mobile or MSN.

If landline calls are a problem and she has access to a PC and broadband connection, get her onto voipbuster.com, landline calls are free so she can talk to her hearts content.
She can also have her own telephone number which rings on the computer when she gets a call.

If the link 'holds', it's HERE (see page 4).
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").

    Thanks for that April2.

When April2's link expires then this here (page 4 as mentioned by April2) should still be valid as I've taken the 'sessionID timeout feature'* out of the URL (weblink) so now it shouldn't expire.

If I would have thought on I should have done that earlier. lol :rotfl:

    * BT use a feature that after so long the link becomes invalid and times-out. I've no idea the reason behind this but it is annoying to say the least but BT will make out that they have a valid reason behind it to justify it. Anyhow because I've now taken this annoying feature out of the link it should just work as normal and not expire after a couple of hours (going by the fact that the link in my previous post has already expired).

I have to admit that I have no idea how you worked out that BV_SessionID=%40%40%40%401569473399.1126372590%40%40%40%40& was the 'expire' part of the link but, well done.

Back OT, I note that even the BT PDF does not list all the codes that could be used (they 'supply' the phone number 0800 789 456 for subscribers to find out the others) so does anyone know whether subscribers can set up multiple Call Bars?

For example, would it be possible to set up:

*342# to bar national, international and mobile calls AND
*344# to bar BT operator calls and SMS AND
*347# to bar calls to Premium Rate numbers.

If so, would it be necessary to cancel each one individually?

I just examined the link and noticed it mentioned 'sessionID' and because cookies are sometimes known as session cookies, I assumed it was actually like a cookie but instead of being saved on the computer and then timing-out (expiring) some clever people have done it in the URL links instead.

As you note, the only difference is I've carefully removed the sessionID part (as highlighted in red) below:-

    No timing-out link:-
    http://www.downloads.bt.com/callingfeatures/CallingFeatures.pdf?BV_EngineID=cccdaddfjfhjjehcflgcefkdffndflk.0&action=redirectLink&obsNoSee=false&targetLinkID=SS_Download_PDF

    Timing-out (sessionID) link:-
    http://www.downloads.bt.com/callingfeatures/CallingFeatures.pdf?BV_EngineID=cccdaddfjfhjjehcflgcefkdffndflk.0&action=redirectLink&BV_SessionID=%40%40%40%401569473399.1126372590%40%40%40%40&obsNoSee=true&targetLinkID=SS_Download_PDF

    Hope that helps!

This is a direct link to the pdf file:

    http://www.downloads.bt.com/callingfeatures/CallingFeatures.pdf

If you noticed, the address Kev (bbb_uk) provided had it there, but with added crap at the end.

Thanks for that. I can't believe I missed that and it is so obvious as well. I was that busy trying to workout which part of the link contained the code for timing-out the links and removed that and didn't actually just look at the beginning (and most obvious) part of the link.
