  • Hey, I'm coming to the end of my first year.Don't give up you've done 2 years, thing is I find nursing is either brilliant or !!!!!!, but for the most I love it. I love the relationships you build with patients and saying goodbye to them when they've recovered and walking off that ward, you won't get that working in Tescos will you? Chin up, you'll be qualified before you know it!

  • Hi all
im sorry for putting this here, but I thought this thread might have the answer to my question. Is it possible for a nursing student (just started) to do the necessary training to become a healthcare assistent/auxiliary nurse? I realise its probably easier to just have done the HCA prior to beginning a nursing course. Does anyone know if you can do this training while actually on the nursing degree?

You might get more responses in future by starting a new thread rather than bumping a three year old one!

Technically, there is no necessary training to become a HCA. Lots of student nurses work for agencies and do shifts as and when they can. Ring the hospitals near you, ask what agency they use and then apply. They might not take you on until you've done a few placements but its worth asking.

I did bank NA/HCA work as a student - all they wanted was for you to have done 1 hospital based placement - then no further training and would ring for shifts
