In legal terms as long as the property is returned to the landlord in the state it was found in I'm pretty sure there is f*** all the landlord could do.

Granted the landlord could give you 2 months notice because you've put a few pictures up, but he'd have to be a complete f***ing anally retentive retard to do that if you are otherwise a good tennant.

Put Simply: If it went to court over the landlord withholding your deposit, it doesn't matter if you've stripped the plaster off and cut the wiring into 2 inch lengths, as long as the place is left in as good condition as when the tennant move in, they will get their deposit back in full.
Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.

We've never stopped anyone hanging pictures or posters up, even with blu tack because we know damn well that they'll do it anyway, and as for asking them either politely to their faces or in the contract to make good at the end of the tenancy...well....we wouldn't dream of it. Waste of breath/ink in my experience.

I did get a bit narked tho when 3 of our student sharers decided to network their computers together via a cable, and drilled several holes straight thru the floor to the rooms below without regard for any pipework or electric cables that might have been in the way......

squatnow - is it absolutely necessary for you to constantly use such foul language - even over something as small as picture hooks ?

i also really resent your frequent name-calling of landlords - we are not all as you describe - as well you know.

My friend has just moved out of a house because she couldn't make it homely putting photos/pictures on the vast bare wall and she couldn't put shelves up to use, she said it never felt like her home because of these rules. When I took my tenancy out before I signed I checked to make sure it was ok for us to do this. To be honest I spent 2 days covering up where the LL had ripped theirs off the wall and repainting because they were left in such a mess, we have put 2 shelves up so far and I will cover any damage made by those before we leave. Why people can't unscrew something instead of pulling it out of the wall I don't know.
One day I might be more organised...........

In our first flat, we used the holes or nails already in the walls to hang stuff...it meant we had stuff hanging on the wall in some weird and wonderful places but at least it was unique!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
