Hi All,
I'm wanting to buy a Nikopn D40x or similar and wanted to see if anyone has any discounts or knows of any good offers anywhere.
Thanks
Ciaran

Years ago I had an Olympus SLR but never really understood how to use it properly. More by luck than judgement I was able to take some pretty good pics with it. I think I lost it in a divorce settlement in favour of a sewing machine  !!
DS2 is a bit of an athlete and I'd love to take some decent pics of him. Now he's a 100m runner and that means I get less than 12 seconds to get to grips with pics of him running! My current camera takes longer than that to set up so I guess I need a SLR with something speedy.
Are they that difficult to use or set up?
Can I get one for about £300 that would do the trick but isn't too complicated?
I've got a nice point and shoot Yashica Zoomtec that I love but nobody takes pics with film anymore. My Canon is OK but you can't see what you're taking pics of in the sunshine.
Any ideas anyone? Please don't get too technical or you'll loose me within the first few lines!Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -

I have a Nikon D40 - got it before we went on Safari last year. It is very easy to use, and can just as easily be a point and shoot camera. You could get several pics in that 12 secs!
TBH I could not recommend it highly enough, I had a simple compact digital before I made the jump and i would say the D40 is nearly as easy to use, but it can be more complicated if that is what you are after. Best of both worlds! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Very helpful Jane, thanks.
Any opinions on the Nikon D40 over the Sony A200?Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
I bought a D40 as a birthday present 6 weeks ago, and the cheapest deal at the time (that I could find) was Dixons @ £266.16;

Go through Quidco for 3% cashback; Use 'AW5' for £5 discount; and get £30 cashback from Nikon (by post with email receipt) and it works out at less than £225 paid (in the long-run!)
(there may be a better discount code, but the £5 one is allowed with the quidco discount)
I don't know anything about cameras, but the recipient is very happy with it!0 -
does anyone know if I buy through Ebuyer if it comes with the warranty card that I need in order to claim the cashback from Nikon.
Help please.

looking at the D40 by the way.

can anyone tell me if its possible to view a picture on the LCD screen on the D40 before you take it??
my boyfriend bought one yesterday but can only seem to view the pic thru the viewfinder the it will display the pic taken on screen after0 -
You can't view a picture on the LCD screen on the D40 before you take it, only through the viewfinder. It does not take too much getting used to! Remember that with the old film cameras you didn't get to view the picture until it was printed! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
