Good private health insurance company

Hi,
My husband is self employed and as we are on a tight budget we have in place an income protection plan.
I now realise that this was not the best thing to do as he has an injury and we need to pay to go privately. As the NHS would take too long and he would lose his customers.
As i can only really afford one or the other, i would rather he have private health insurance in place. Can anyone recommend a good one and what does everyone else do in this situation when they are self employed???
He had this income protection plan in place for ages and we have just kept it up, i didn't realise it would pay out so little when we needed it!!

Can you clarify if you mean permanent health insurance or private medical insurance?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I need something to pay for private medical treatment if he is injured or ill. I think i mean private medical insurance.
You'll have to excuse me if i get it wrong!!
What is the difference?? what does permanent health insurance cover??0 -
permanent health insurance is proper income protection. Not the cut down budget versions that are sold with mortgages or generally on the internet (which are basic rubbish). PHI is far superior (although budget level is generally your basic mortgage and internet ones so standard or comprehensive versions are usually better)
Private medical insurance (PMI) is your private hospital care. This also tends to come in three levels of cover. Budget which is almost a waste of money. standard and comp.
If your husband didnt have a PHI policy but an budget income protection then that may be part of the problem.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Yes i am aware they won't cover for existing conditions - i am thinking of future conditions.
DunstonH - the policy he has for income protection is with Holloway Friendly and is a classic plus plan?? My OH has had this for years, although we updated it about a year ago. It covers income of £200 per week, which is basically enough to cover mortgage plus essentials. They are happy to pay out, we have a plan that pays out after 4 weeks, it costs us about £50 per month and i think it also saves towards some sort of lump sum??
Does this sound like a PHI to you??
I have looked on internet for some quotes for PMI and that is coming up at about £50 for comprehensive.0
