Radio, Vauxhall Zafira
Hi all,
Im having problems with the radio fitted in My Zafira. It is not the one that came fitted with the car, though it is the same make/model.
For some reason it has just stopped working, when I turn it on the car time/date display says "SAFE".
I dont have the code.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

You seem to be saying that the radio did work prior to this?
However, SAFE in the display usually means the radio has been disconnected from it's power supply, the car battery has been disconnected and then reconnected or inputting wrong four digit security code has been attempted a few times. (don't know the precise number of attempts). As you don't have the code then unfortunately I'm not able to advise further. I don't even know whether a Vauxhall dealer could help because it's a different unit to that supplied with the vehicle.
If you had the code then it's just a matter of pressing the first four preset buttons in turn each the number of times that correspond to that code digit.
If i remember correctly the unit has to be reset prior to entering the code by switching on the ignition, pressing and holding the AS button then switching on the radio at the same time. It then goes into security code entering mode. There are probably other ways of accessing code mode so be careful and make sure first!
All the above is assuming it's a radio that Vauxhall usually supply as standard and you haven't just replaced one aftermarket unit by another?
Or try one of those back street radio decoding people!
Or possibly more reputable? http://www.radio-code.co.uk/0 -
There seem to be a few people on eBay selling decoding services. I presume it's a VDO CDR500 radio/cd player? The man without a signature.0

Most Vauxhall garages will charge you a tenner for the code.
As stated above, hold AS button and the nturn radio on while still holding AS button. It then lets you enter the code.
If you do this TWICE then your radio will be de-coded...!0 -

My Astra radio goes into SAFE mode from time to time when the battery has NOT been disconnected or anything been tampered with at all. It does it once every few months. I've got the code so it's not a problem. Never understood why it does this though !If you will the end, you must will the means.0
