And what you're talking about is choosing to pay full price instead of half.
No, what you are talking about is paying the same price and choosing not to take food which you won't eat. Which is better for everyone.

... but by leaving the fruit, you're paying twice as much per kilo.

Again, I understand where you're coming from, but psychology isn't so logical!

Why not shop with a friend and swap bogofs

personally i always check unit prices even on bogofs you would be surprised !! what seems like a good buy is just a ploy to get you to spend more

My BOGOf advice is only buy things you would pay full price for it!!

I was reading an article recently and it was saying that we throw away about a third of the food we buy:( and that a third of the methane from land fill is due to rotting fruit and veg. these bogof's just promote this. and encourage people to buy something that they don't normally buy (the whole point of the bogof) and so are more likely to waste. sorry to be a bit down on it the idea of building community and taking it to work is cool as long as it does't just get thrown in their bin rather than ours.

In the same vein............... it's not always cheaper to buy a larger pack any more. At one time if you bought a bigger size or weight the price per kilo/grams or per item was always proportionately cheaper. Not any more, so you need to keep your eyes peeled as well as your oranges!
It can be more cost effective to buy one or two items loose (particularly potatoes which don't seem to keep without going green, so then have to be thrown out cos that's dangerous!) but often grapefruit, onions, bananas are cheaper individually than if you buy a basics/economy pack. Although not all things are. For instance shrink wrapped broccoli is often cheaper than loose and has not been handled! Jars of mustard, bottles of worcester sauce or tomato sauce are all often cheaper in the small size - very odd!
The stores put all sorts of notices and things on the bigger packs/bottles at eye level to get your attention and store the small ones away at the bottom or top shelf so that we all go for the bigger pack that we don't need and really haven't got room for anyway!
If only it were all simple..................have you noticed that where there are pricing anomalies (big word for this time of day!:rotfl: ) it is generally made more difficult by the store putting different pricing types so that you cannot compare easily? When they change the pricing from per kilos to per 100gs it should always ring alarm bells as generally that means very expensive!! Reduced price items can also be a red herring as some stores don't knock much off at all anyway, despite big damage or very short dates, while others (Sainsburys in particular) have a habit of reducing older packs of things that are now actually a better price on the shelf - the lesson to learn is to always check the full price of the item currently on the shelf as the bargain may not be a real bargain at all .
Can anyone tell me why we can't go back to paper bags for fruit and veg (we still have them for mushrooms) to reduce plastic bag use, better cos it doesn't sweat and can go straight in the compost bin.........or am I too simplistic? No I don't need an answer to that one............ thanks!

These BOGOF offers by Sainsburys and Tesco are irresponsible and contribute to the shameful amount of food wasted each year in this county, while people in other countries are dying of starvation:

ASDA has a policy of lower prices across the board instead of offers like this, although they still have a few.

This waste of food can be avoided by better planning of meals and eating habits in advance, while saving money at the same time!

I tend only to buy tinned, dried or frozen bogofs.. and then only if its a product I'd buy anyway.. my monthly shopping budget to feed the two of us is fifty quid... and I've not gone hungry yet.....

Im onto BOGOF satsumas at the moment, i think im turning orange as i manage to eat the two bags in a week while im at work!

They will keep for longer than a week Gary! Pop them in the fridge - also you can break them up into slices and freeze them - great as munchable ice-cubes in orange (or chocolate) drinks!!!

Haha, i have a solution! juice the fruit, I find it much easier and quicker to consume fruit this way.
Personally i hate teh whole chewing process of the fruit and i hate the pith and skin so i even peel the white "wrapping" bit of the fruit...
Juicing is the way forward lol
