Fake Memory Foam Mattresses

I would like to bring peoples attention to a number of mattresses on ebay (and probably in some other outlets too) that aren't what they are claimed to be.
The sellers of the mattresses in question are either describing them as 'Reflex Memory Foam', or some even just describe them as memory foam mattresses.
The truth is that the only genuine memory foam is 'Visco Elastic Memory Foam', which has slow reacting properties. Reflex foam is basically sponge that you would find in many soft furnishings, and is far cheaper. Reflex foam is often used as the bottom layer, with memory foam on top.
Don't think that just because a seller has good feedback, that their mattresses are genuine memory foam. These sellers have conned thousands of people in the past into thinking that they have bought memory foam mattresses because they don't know what a memory foam mattress should feel like. However in most cases you will find that one or two buyers have questioned the construction of the mattresses. So search through the sellers feedback and look for any neutral or negative feedback, then if in doubt ask us.
If you follow these simple rules you shouldn't be taken for a ride:

If you follow these simple rules you shouldn't be taken for a ride:
- Don't buy a mattress that is described as 'Reflex Memory Foam'. Those described as reflex/memory foam should be geniune as they are often made from a layer of each.
- If the seller doesn't state the depth of the memory foam (2" to 2.5" is the optimum), then ask.
- If a seller says that the whole depth of the mattress is memory foam, then it isn't memory foam (unless it is just a topper).
- If there is a cut through drawing of the mattress it should show a layer of memory foam on top of (or occasionally also underneath) the spring layer. The spring layer can be either proper springs or reflex foam. This layer is important as memory foam doesn't give any bounce, and you would just sink right into it.
- Don't buy if the listing shows a cut through drawing showing foam only in the middle.

I brought a Tempur mattress from a reputable retailer (been around 20 odd years) and I really enjoy sleeping on it.
Thanks.0 -
Well a Tempur mattress isn't fake, it does contain memory foam.0

Of course,if we only buy from someone who constantly urges others to search for the phrase "100 % satisfaction quarantee" in relation to buying beds on Ebay-guess who is the ONLY person you end up with?..I guarantee it...

Please get your facts right. There are a few sellers on ebay who give a satisfaction guarantee, but it would be silly not to use one who did. This doesn't just apply to ebay sellers, it should apply to all retailers.0 -
I have just bought a fake memory foam topper through Amazon.co.uk. The foam is hard, has a strong odour and is a dark orangey colour. The wording on the box is full of spelling mistakes, the product is clearly a fake. The seller says that he had to produce certificates to prove its genuine. I suspect that he is selling both genuine and fake memory foam, Amazon doesn t see what is being delivered to the customer. Amazon only accept returns that are in the original packaging. The foam was vacuum packed and had to be removed to see the quality of the foam.
I lived in Asia for 12 years and have seen lots of fakes, I know I have a fake but how do I get the foam tested to prove it? Im sick of getting ripped off, if we don t fight this problem this country is going to be swamped with all sorts of perhaps even dangerous products.0 -

Do you have a link to the advert on Amazon?
Also what does it say on the label about the topper and the memory foam used in it?0 -

Not sure if this link will work. The sellers name is Linen Depot but the product actually came from a company called Treaty fabrics.
The label starts off with a spelling mistake HISPRODUCT (should be THIS PRODUCT) It says more about the cover, polyester cotton mix.
The only mention of memory foam. It reads, this memory foam is fire retardant, keep away from open flame. It also reads, this product is for decorative use only, it is not a toy. Keep away from infants.
Weird, I'm sure thats supposed to be a warning about the plastic bag it was packaged in, not the the topper.
The box claims it is visco elastic memory foam, conforms to BS7177 & BS5852 fire standards. I have counted 5 spelling and grammar mistakes on the box.

Sorry the topper is priced 29.950
