Advice on Selling a Krugerrand (gold coin) ?

Hi Everyone!

As everyone knows, times is tight and personally I'm having to sell thing to make ends meet.

I have a gold coin given to me by my grandfather called a Krugerrand. It's 1oz of Fine Gold minted in 1975. My brother sold his to a shop on the Strand, after some haggling and going between shops, for about £325 when gold prcies were a lot lower.

My question is: what sort of price can I get given the current price of Gold? Any advice on where to sell, haggling etc, would be very much appreciated!

All the best
Falcon

    Have a look here:-

At a goldd price of £400 they were selling them for £428. So taking the reverse you might get around £372.

Hopefully with a bit of haggling you would improve on that.

Current gold price is $877 or about £445. So you should be looking for somewhere around £420 give or take. I haven't a clue what their margin is though.

IS there a way of checking previous sale prices on Ebay? I've never used Ebay before, so I'm not sure it would be the best item to start on! However, it could prove a useful guide to selling the item!

    Thanks!

Just type 'krugerrand' into the search box, click search, and the tick the 'completed items' box in the search options on the left.

    You'll have to sign in.

The price should be a little above the spot gold price. It's not really a hard item to price.

  • you could try selling it to a company that buys and sells gold - we had a kruggerand and i debated selling it on ebay but didn't think it was worth the risk of not getting market value.

so we tried a few places, but in the end sold it to www.hattongardenmetals.com as then we were guaranteed a certain price. at the moment they are paying £680 for a kruggerand. they were pretty good and the money was in our account the day they received the coin - there may be other companies that will pay a bit more though, so i'd do your research thoroughly!
