Gas bill
Info received from British Gas re change to Direct Debit - from £45.50 per month to £70.00, first payment already taken out! OK, so we all know that gas prices have risen BUT....
Phone call to B.Gas resulted in negotiating a further one-off payment of £42.00 followed by monthly payments of £56.00 for the next year. Much more manageable and more inline with other providers, negating the need to switch at this time, but will keep tracking other providers.
Moral: don't just accept their hike!

The real moral is that the DD payment is not a measure of the cost of gas/electricity.
All that matters is the cost per kWh, plus any other charges and discounts.
You will always be offered a lower monthly initial DD payment as an inducement to move to another firm. The size of that DD will not reflect the cost of the energy provided.0
