Hi All,
I got hit from the back yesterday and its completely the guys fault - I ve just been checking all the required docs and I ve realised that my MOT expired Aug 2007
Does anyone know whether this will materially affect my claim?
I m so concerned about this

I am not sure and I can find arguments for both. Have you read your policy book for your car insurer?
A quick google search has found this

If you are certain that this is the other driver's fault, then you could deal with by claiming off the third party's insurers yourself, and not claim from your own insurers.
They won't be asking for your MOT certificate.0 -
If your car is written off it will reduce the payout significantly

They cannot reject the claim unless the car was unroadworthy and this actually contributed in some way to the incident. This cannot be the case if the third party was 100% liable.
The total loss settlement may be reduced to trade value or subject to a percentage deduction.0 -
I thought your insurance isn't valid if you don't have an up to date MOT?Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.0

I can assure you that this is not the case.0 -
When does your tax disc run out?"I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -

Hi Katie,Source?????
Raskazz is an insurance underwriter and so I'm inclined to believe that he/she is correct.
Do you have a source for your infromation?
I'm interested as my car failed it's MOT yesterday (different thread) and I did drive it to a garage for repairs (which I believe is legal and insured - unless I have an accident related to the fault).0 -
Hi Joey
2 years ago I forgot to renew my MOT, my car got stolen and written off. The insurance paid up minus £42.50 to cover no MOT certificate.
