I was having really bad flooding periods, and due to a thickening womb lining which can be pre-cancerous, I was given a mirena coil and now have no bleeding.

A few years ago I had a two week bout of really bad hot flushes. I thought I was going insane. It has calmed down somewhat, but I can get hot at night and randomly in the days. No real pattern as such.

What I do find is I am hyper sensitive, emotional to the point where its like crying rivers of tears. I don't know where it all comes from and I feel so utterly low at times. Decreasing energy levels too trouble me. Yeah you can't (well hopefully) get pregnant, but apart from that I can't see theres much good in the big M.

Like OP, because of Mirena I dont really know if I have passed through it, am going through it or what? Or am I just turning into a dotty old lady a bit earlier than most!

Am an old hand at Menopause and think I'm nearly through it. What has helped me is exercise, changing my diet to exclude dairy products (almost), switching to soya milk , taking Menoherbs (natural herbal product) and Siberian Ginseng for energy. Having said that I do get bad days like yesterday when I could hardly move due to extreme fatigue and a headache which I NEVER get normally. Today I feel normal again. Funnily enough I had stopped taking the remedies a month or so ago as I was feeling better. Went out and bought some more today.

Hi I'm 45, and have had a mirena for 11 years now, just as contraception (no heavy periods before), I had a blood test last year and it said I was peri-menopausal. I actually thought that because it gives you hormones it acted like HRT and so you do not get symptoms of the menopause!? Obviously I have been misled.

Hi Deby. I don't really know the answer to your question but it does not sound as if your body is accepting the IUD. I know many years ago - pre the Mirena, I had a couple of coils and they were never settled, lots of bleeding and cramps.

Get it checked out, seriously, I say this as I ended up with pelvic imflammatory disease which I am pretty certain caused my ectopic pregnancy many years later. Better to be safe than sorry?? Good luck.
