in Cutting tax
Hi
Could anyone please give me advice on the following?
My P60 has arrived, however, it does not show the correct amount of wages I have earned during the last year - therefore the tax and national insurance contributions are going to be wrong.
It only shows my contributions from my current employer.
I have my wage slips from my previouse employer showing that I paid a certain amount of tax - this has not been included on my P60.
I am suspecting that my previous employer has done something illegal.
Why is it not showing on my P60? What action can I take to resolve this?
I am worried that my previous employer is involved in Tax evasion??
Please help - i dont know who to turn to for advice???
What do i do now?

Did you hand in your P45 when you started.? Do the figures on the P45 agree with the totals from your wage slips with the previous firm?

When did you start your current job and did you give a P45 to your new employer?

It sounds more likely that you were on emergency code with your employer during the last part of 07-8. Does the code number show 522L week 1 or month 1? If so, your employer has not taken into account your previous pay and tax and so that's why it's not on the P60.
I can't think what kind of fraud would be involved in leaving out your previous pay and tax!
if you were on E code, you may be due a refund.
If you were not on E code, its your employer's error - won't affect your tax and I can't see fraud here.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
Hi
My Previous employer have not given me a P45 - i have pestered them and they are totally ignoring my requests - which now makes me very suspicious.
I am still on basic rate even though i have completed a P46 .0 -
Hi
My final tax code is 000BR W1
I hope this helps?0 -
It looks like my problem then is with my current employer??0

I don't think your current employer has done anything wrong.
They have completed the P60 with the details they have.
Your best bet now is to check with your current employer that they are now using the correct tax code, based upon the P46 you completed.
Then contact your tax office and send them copies of your payslips from your old employer and a copy of your P60, you will also need to confirm who you worked for from 6th April 2007 upto 5th April 2008, making sure there are no gaps, or explaining what you did during the gaps.

No.
The only reason your previous jobs pay and tax are not on your P60 s because your current employer doesn't know what they are.
I'd chase your current employer as to why they havn't applied your P46 details - which box did you tick btw.Make a list of important things to do today. At the top, put 'eat chocolate'. Now, you'll get at least one thing done today.

... it could be that an employer operating PAYE could deduct tax and NICs from their employees but does not then pay that money over to HMRC.
Totally agree with whatatwit's advice - that's your next step.0
