We used Ronseal 5 year Fencelife in Dark Oak which is a Bournville chocolate brown colour. So far it is looking good after 3 years, there is a strip 1 foot long by 1cm wide that has gone green where it gets very damp but out of 70+ feet of 6 foot high panels thats pretty good going.
We tried lots of different products but they just weren't worth the savings as we had to do them again very quickly. The creosote substitutes look very watery and patchy when applied and tended to leave 'run' marks more easily.
I would pay the extra

i'll second ronseal Fencelife in Dark Oak. It goes on really easily, one coat is enough and it weathers well.
I think i paid £6.98 for 5litres in B&Q X0 -
£7 dont sound so bad, do they sell a huge tub for a better discount?
is it thick enough to cover the old colour?0
