Best time to sell shares?

Is it better to sell shares when they are at their peak price when the Company in question is being bought out by another Company - or is it best to hold onto your shares?
Plus when is the best time to sell shares in general?

The best time to sell shares is when you are happy with the profit you`re going to make because as Sod`s Law dictates the minute you sell they`ll go higher.

I remember some shares that I purchased at 68p each
not long after a (generally expected) takeover bid came in at 80p ( a little less than I expected)and accepted, share price jumped to 79p , I decided to wait for the takover for the extra 1p and to save on dealing costs
What a mistake , last minute the buyers pulled out saying irregularities in accounts and the price ended up at around 15p

Alared,
Thank you for the advice - I am still unsure whether to sell my shares just yet - shall wait and see what happens.
Kind regards Kalewa120 -
I have been trading for myself (part-time) for the last 3 years and achieved around 15% per year returns and this year easily 30% (but the directional trend of the market has obviously been a key factor).
What stock are you referring too? What return are you looking at? What I would say if youre not sure on selling is to set a STOP LOSS which offers some protection from a negative shock to the price - in fact you should always set a stop as soon as you enter a trade...0
