Thanks for that Mandy, I have the forms printed off but I think I will actually wait until we are sorted out with housing before I send them off. No point in applying if I have nowhere to put anything anyway!

They sound great so I will apply, the worst they can say is no after all.

If you have a disabled child, do you receive the...

    Family £545 element
    Child £2085 element
    Disabled child £2540
Severely disabled child element £1020 (if the child qualifies for high rate DLA)

    So £545+£2085+£2540+£1020 = £6190 alone in CTC

Will the child also receive high rate DLA and care on top of this along with carers allowance?

It's taken 3/4 months for some peoples awards, I would apply now and if they contact before you are sorted then ask them to delay a little while.
One day I might be more organised...........

Thanks lil_me, it'll be quite difficult as we do not know where we are going so no forwarding addresses or phone numbers :( We have applied for a house but it is in the choice based lettings, we will find out Monday if we have been 'successful' if not then a week later we are off to the homeless hostel and they have tod us it could be for up to 6 months. It is horrible being stuck in 'limbo' so to speak but that is why we cannot really buy or plan anything for the moment so I think it will be best to wait until we are sorted and go from there.

If you put in, for example, for a cooker or washing machine, do they expect you to wait 3-4 months for it. I don't need one but I guess it is for things that need replacing more than things you need urgently.

You can put your current address on the form then update them by telephone as you need to. Mobile number that'll stay the same I am sure would be fine. Yes you would need to wait for the items or rent one in the mean time, hence people apply for them when the other is old and still working usually. They usually in these cases and many others provide the appliance itself.

the op has said there child is getting the middle rate care, so you would not add the severe dissabillity element. but yes you do recieve the dla as well, as for carers allowance that is payable on middle and higher rate only and is subject to qualifying conditions.
