  • I know it's changing the subject slightly.. but.. has anyone opted for the implants. ie lens implants?? I can't have laser surgery as my sight is too poor, but I could go for the alternative treatments. Wouldn't mind some personal knowledge tho' first + I can't seem to get any of these companies to give me an approx cost either.
  • is LES compatible for someone with an occasional lazy eye?

I was advised about this aswell.
  • Hi There,

I am having my eyes done on Monday 19th of sept. EEK!!!
I am short sighted with astigmatism in both eyes.
I took the Ebay route and will be paying £795 for Epi-Lasik on both eyes.
I am really nervouse due to it being all odd having some one fiddle with my eye balls but on the other hand really excited to be able not to wear my glasses agian.
I have had glasses since I was 5 and I am now 29. I am looking forward to:-
opening the oven door and not getting all steamed up
going out in the rain and not having to struggle to see through the drops of water on my lenses.
Not steaming up on the bus, shops or office in the winter.
Seeing the time on my alarm clock in the night with out having to get up and put my nose almost upagainst it just to see the time.
Not searching for my glasses after putting them in a stupid place the night before the morning after.
Not carrying around 2 pairs in the summer and chopping and changing every five mins.
Also not fiddling with my contacts, searching on the carpet for them or forgetting to take them out and waking up with them stuck to my eye lids LOL.

All in all as you can see I am so looking forward to it.I will keep you informed of how I get on as it's better told as it happens then from time ago when the reality of the experience has worn off.

    Wish me luck......

    Good luck Cat!

This is something I would love to have done. I've sent for Optimax info from them and enquired about the NHS discount - if the price is right i just KNOW i won't be able to resist!

Cat - are you getting the Lasik for £795 through ebay ie the least painful one! If so - please tell me how!

Please post back and tell all - best of luck and enjoy opening your oven door and not getting steamed up!
  • Good luck with the surgery Cat. I am a -8 in both eyes and know what being shortsighted means. If you are having lasik does that mean there is no flap cutting, just lasering?

I paid £690 for both eyes, 12 months interest free credit. My £60 consultation was free also!

If you register with Optimax, after a relatively short period of time, their marketing department sends you special deals. The longer you wait, the better they seem to get. Also, if you go to one of their Open Days, they lure you with special offers too. I'd been told this so I registered in January and the unmissable offer came in June. I had surgery in July.

I agree with Al_Jonson, the pain for me was virtually unbearable on the first day (even after 2 natural births!) - if you have it done, take the pain killers straight after surgery so they can be starting to take effect once the anaesthetic wears off. Some people find it doesn't really hurt that much, but it's definately better safe than sorry. On the day, I wished I'd not had it done. I was sitting in the dark, wearing sunglasses with a towel over my head, the glare was that bad!

The day after was much much better and I'm so pleased now, have better than 20/20 vision although my sunglasses are on my head, even indoors, now as I can't get used to being without glasses!
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
  • I had lasik treatment 3 years ago in Boots for £1000 to one eye only. Due to my age and after wearing glasses for 30 years I was at the stage where I needed 2 pairs of glasses or bi-focals. Bi-focals were not for me so I went for lasik. I now appantly use 1 eye for close work and 1 eye for distance which works perfectly for me. I did have a bit of halo vision for a short time though.
My daughter had epi-lasek 2 years later and had the 1 bad night mentioned by others but after a couple of days had perfect vision and has never looked back. The reason she had this treatment was because she drives and didn't want to experience the halo vision I had. All is well for her and what a bargain. As I had previously enquired at Optimax, they sent me a voucher for pay for 1 get 1 free. Total cost for both eyes. £599.
