Where’s the cheapest place to buy either Norton or Mcafee internet security?

I’m looking for the cheapest place to buy either Norton or Mcafee Internet security 2008 or whatever the latest edition is.

Where would be the best place to buy from?

I know there are free security products that can be downloaded, and it’s a bit complicated to explian but I cant use these. It has to be one of those two brands.

Anyone have any ideas of where to try? PC World has Mcafee half price (£25) but you cant order it for home delivery and the store is too far away. They have Norton for £30 that I could order but I just wondered if anyone knows of any cheaper places.

Thanks.

Wouldn't touch Norton with a bargepole tbh.
    Illegitimi non carborundum.
  • I got Norton 360 for £30 when I bought a new PC. Had all kinds of problems with it on one of my laptops (it has a three computers per household limit on it) but after getting in touch with Symantec they were very thorough in helping me sort out the issue via email.

I'm getting Sky broadband in a week or so, and Mcafee free for a year.

I won't use it, so if you wanna PM me your address I'll pop it in the post.

Failing that, just download AVG from here:
    http://www.grisoft.cz/filedir/inst/avg_free_stf_en_8_100a1295.exe

That's free, and as good as any pay to use service.

Thanks for the offer, but we had that the same McAfee deal from Sky and its just run out. So I'm not sure that would work again.

    Thanks for offering though.

Thanks for posting the link. It seems as though John Lewis is the cheapest.

I would never have though of trying there myself!

    Thanks again.

    Thanks.

Sorry but as a moneysaving bod, I would only advise anyone to download the AVG anti virus. It works, its reasonably quick and very thorough.

AVG also do a free anti spyware and a free anti rootkit programme.

Their updates are excellent and Norton etc are just a rip off.

Sure. You could get; Spybot, search and destroy,
    CCleaner,
    Adaware from Lavasoft,
    Spywareblaster
    Belarc advisor
    Winpatrol

All useful utilities that I use on a regular basis to detect spyware, registry changes, and unwelcome programs.

If you dont already have a firewall on your computer, the best freebie is to get
    Zonealarm

None of these will devour your memory or resources and they will happily tick away in the background as long as you update them frequently and run them at least weekly.

Without being a bore about this, one of the best things you can do on a regular basis is to defragment your disk, and also check the disk for errors.

Go to my computer, right click the C drive icon and look for the tools tab; they are easy to use from there.

I speak from experience here; not running the regular disk check cost me £70 at PC World. never again.
