Problem with Drains in a new house - HELP

Options
Hiya

Ever feel like you are having one of those months??? first it was storm damage, then the heating and now the drains! Rant over!!! Need help and advice.

I moved into a new house 2001. The builders have never been seen again. I have got a problem with the outside drains;the toilets are not flushing properly now. I believe that there is an organisation that I can contact under the guarantee of the house. Can anyone help with details? If not thanks for listening to my rant, a problem shared and all that.......

I run a Maintenance Company and have a contract with a house builder to do all of their snagging and defects work.

There atre a number of things to consider:

When you bought the house, you should have had a 'buyers pack' which shoulkd have listed the specification of the house, appliance warranties, as built colours etc. You need to checkin there.

The organisation you ask about is the NHBC - National House Builders Confederation. This is the organiation that sffectively gives a warranty on the house for the first 10 years. However, I have a feeling that blocked drains (which yours sound like) are not covered. The warrantly only covers sub structure, super structure and roofs.

You would be well advised to get a local plumber / dfrainage companty to come and unblock things. Much, much quicker than the NHBC.

My mum had problems with her drains (5 year old house/NHBC guarantee) and the drains weren't covered by the guarantee - or at least they wouldn't help her with them. She claimed on her household insurance and they sorted the whole thing out. They put a CCTV camera down and found a bend which hadn't been done properly so that stuff from the toilet was catching. They eventually put in a new manhole to repalce the bend and it worked fine afterwards. Mind you it took ages to get to that point.
