Best Fixed Rate Bonds

... or should that be "Best Fixed Rate Deposits" (lol).

Have Nationwide 1 year 6.7% started early last December - matures 02/12/2008.
Have Icesave 2 year 6.6% started late last December - matures 28/12/2009.

Don't want to put any more in these two companies (no disrespect to either), so what are the next best 1 or 2 year fixes. Monthly income required. Well not required as such, it's what I prefer.

YBS do a 1 year 6.2% e-bond. Looks OK, monthly income option and already a customer with a small Internet Saver balance, and can invest plenty here as I moved my e-ISA to the Lloyds TSB 6.5% product last month.

Looking at depositing £20,000.

Any others?

Cahoot (part of the Abbey group) have just launched a 6 month bond paying 6.87%. Looks like the best offer from a mainstream UK bank currently, although ICICI pay more if you are prepared to go with a foreign bank.

Even if I take out the Cahoot fixed rate bond now, will it still pay 6.87% AER on the money I deposit for only four months?

If it's a 6 month term and you withdraw after just 4, the chances are that you'll be fairly heavily penalised for doing so.

Suggest that you read the product details HERE "No additional deposits allowed after the initial deposit is made. No withdrawals allowed and early closure may result in a possible loss of interest"

I did read those. What I meant was that it said the bond matured at the end of October...meaning my money would only be in it from May-October. So 5 months, my error.

The Birmingham Midshires current offer is a fixed rate of 6.81% gross for 1 year.

Tend to think that unless you specifically want access at less than 12 months then having to find a new home for your dosh after 6 months with the inevitable loss of interest during the transfer in and out is way too much hassle - especially as some of these accounts take best part of a month to set up.
