Using a timer
Just an idea?
If a freezer uses so much energy? Could you not put a timer on it and get it to only boost at night. Using E7
Any idea how much a 5foot chest freezer would use per ?
Heard again on Radio 4 that gas and electric is to go up again. Even with new production outlets the prediction is there is no end to the prices rising.

Chest freezers are reckoned to be cheaper to run than uprights, tho with drawers in individual compartments wouldn't have thought so.
On the back of the freezer will be a plate, my fridge freezer says 292kwh per year. i.e. about £30 p.a.
Visit Comet or Currys website each appliance will probably be rated alongside the price.
As to price rises, think about packing up fridges and freezers, after all our grandparents and their parents didn't have them. Go back to tins and dried and fresh foods.0 -
How well filled you keep your freezer, how well insulated it is, and where it is kept will determine how much temperature the contents would lose in the 17 hours without power.Just an idea?

I suppose setting it at a colder temperature would help, but you would have to not open the lid during the time when the power was off.
My fairly old large(16 cu ft?) Bosch freezer, uses about 400 kWh per year.
I suspect for a 5 cu ft freezer your idea might save £10 a year; but I can thing of easier ways to save a tenner!0
