Hiring Carpet Cleaners

I am thinking of hiring a carpet cleaner for the weekend. Homebase do them for £16 (domestic) and £25 (industrial) for 48 hours - has anybody had any experience of these? Are they any good?

I've hired in the past, then decided that £100 odd for a VAX was long-term a better bet, as it would be long-term cheaper than hiring or using a cleaner. IMHO, the carpet looks just as clean, even compared to a pro using his coconut shell mix.
Hire machines are v. heavy, with all the water in them.0 -
I found a bloke who cleaned carpets for a living - he "hired" his kit to me for the weekend and I did the whole house.
I expect the chancellor chipped in a bit towards the costs of the fluids - but I don't know that!0
