That is no longer true and is a point that I argued with several retailers a year ago! On the Visa Electron website itself it states that the card can be used for internet transactions!
I think you'll also find that it's the Natwest merchant system that cannot take Electron card payments without the customer present, not the Barclays one
There are in fact only a few major retailers online that still refuse this card - Tesco, Argos and Iceland (before they stopped online shopping) are the ones I can think of off the top of my head that I used regularly, but you'll find many places now accept it, or have at least added Paypal as an option which accepts Electron cards."An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"
