Fraud Concern

wasn;t sure where best to post this but basically, my dp received a letter the other day saying that he had been refused for a credit card. He is not bothered about not getting this card as he already has one which has a very small balance that is gonna be paid off next month. only prob with this letter is that he has not actually apllied for any credit recently - credit card or otherwise. this has obvioulsy set alram bells ringing but not sure where to go from here. after all, the letter came to our own address so not like someoen expects to find a card but even so, its another refusal that should not be on his file. does anyone know how to address this issue. we have applied for a credit report to start but not sure what to do once we receive it? would they send us a copy of the application if we asked?

Who is the letter from? Is it from one of the bigger and more reputable companies? In which case my first port of call would be to be in touch with them and let them know about it and see is the letter legit and do they have the paperwork to back it up. Not so sure what to do if you haven't heard of the company...although it is weird it's a letter turning him down if it's a phising scam....I think I'd def want to investigate more in any case...and def worth checking the credit report...

thanks bg. it is from mbna.. the address on the letter is legit.. i did note that the paper seemed very thin and the print was a bit 'cheap' but i dunno if this is of relevance. there was no number on the letter but i might write. thanks again for the response. :)

I'd check their website for a number for Customer Services (or similar) and ring them directly rather than going to the address they have given you. If it is a scam, by writing to them, they know they have a 'hit' and it may help them.
