Which adeshive for stone tiles?

Options
Hi,

I have just bought these tiles for the kitchen walls:

http://www.wickes.co.uk/Marble+Limestone/Tumbled-Stone-Wall-and-Floor-Tiles/invt/166048

I bought wickes high grab adhesive, but have just read on the side its not to be used for real stone tiles. I didnt see any stone tile adeshive in wickes though, can I use this? IS there a reason you shouldnt use ceramic tile adhesive for stone tiles?

Cheers

Andy

Short answer is that YES there is an adhesive for Natural Stone Tiles.

Wickes does sell it becuase I just bought some today, it is expensive however £20 for 12.5kg (2-3 sq m of floor tiles). I don't know about wall tiles, but this stuff deffinately works, and it is rapid set too, so you can walk on it in a few hours. I don't know why you should use natural stone adhesive, but I think it has got something to do with how well it bonds. We put some slate border on our walls and used regular adhesive, and for the most part they have set fine, but, the adhesive comes off easily if knocked...

BAL adhesives are the top and you get a 10 year warranty on there products http://www.bal-adhesives.co.uk/bal/bal_products/products.asp

When I purchased my tiles I bought them from topps tiles and they were able to recommend which adhesive to use. Not sure which ones to use in your case but i'm guessing it could be BAL Grip. Just to note the adhesives are expensive compared to Wickes prices.

I must have missed it, will have a look tommorow, just looking at thier good ideas leaflet in which they do mention Wickes natural stone tile adeshive. Maybe its to hold up the extra weight? They are pretty heavy these tiles!

Also did you seal the tiles before or after placing them?

    Cheers
