How do I convert .bup files to .avi or .mpeg4

Hi techies!

I'm not too clued up on this stuff.

But a friend has sent me some video files from her camcorder in .bup format.

How can I convert this to something that I can watch on my laptop? Avi or mpeg4 format i think?

Is there any free software I can use to do this?

Thanks soo much!

It's the .VOB that has the video in them.

    You could use Auto GK

    or

DivX converter from the DivX site.

There are many programs out there some free, some for a fee.

    I use TMPEGEnc 4.0 Xpress

Remember AVI is just a container, it could be any video format inside it.

However you don't have to convert them, just make sure you have DVD player software on your Laptop or at least the MPEG2-DVD codecs so the standard player will play them. VLC Player will play them - though not the .BUP or .IFO files as they don't contain video.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I have a (very) large DVD collection, I do play dvd files (not disks) on my PC, with corresponding vob and bup files, I have various codecs installed, but no codec packs, so I may have a bit of a clue. Both the links I posted (top 2 from a google search) contain valid information, useful to you, I just thought linking rather than retyping would save me time, I was wrong. My point (either missed, or taken badly) with the google comment was that often questions have been answered, ad nauseum, you, or I, are very rarely the first to ask a question
