Bank holiday painting, preparation bore... is anyone else doing the same?

After a long evening and this afternoon on preparation I've finally actually held a paintbrush.

Meanwhile sitting room is a bedsit:

Bathroom is a store:

Hall is a store:

Maybe even rather sad deciding to paint the airing cupboard properly:

It took 1.5 hours to mask everything up:

On the plus side, I've bought decent quality paint and brushes, and the preparation is always worth it in the long run.

The room was decorated by me 2 years ago, so there's actually not much wrong with it. The gloss work had gone yellow due to the colour underneath leaching up, that's the main thing.

The prep work is so BORRINGGGGGGGGG! I can't wait to get my brushes out and see the fruits of my labour but hate the prep work as it looks like you have done absolutely nuffink for hours!

I sanded, filled, scraped all the flaking paint off our wooden porch yesterday which took hours, then undercoated and glossed it and it looks fab now, if I do say so myself.Glad I did it yesterday as it has poured with rain today even though I read it was meant to be the hottest day of the year today, whereas yesterday was glorious!

But, if you don't do the prep work, it will look like a dogs dinner and won't have been worth the effort.

    Good luck!

All our new doors are now painted. Each one took about a day though. Sand, wire wool, brush down, wipe down, primer and undercoat, two coats of water based satin finish paint (IMHO much better than gloss as it dries in about an hour, doesn't smell and brushes are easy to wash!). Finding out how to paint a panel door made the job much easier.

    Next job our bedroom.

    Has anyone used "liquid sander"?

!!!!!! - I just painted the ceiling in the airing cupboard and the old paint lifted off when the new paint dampened it. So I took the putty knife and stripped off about 90% of it, onto my hair. I then mixed up some really watery paint and slapped that on, with all the drips landing on my head.
I really do know how to have fun.

I removed all the bad paint today, washed it over with dilute emulsion etc, painted the main room, then rollered the airing cupboard and another big chunk of old paint came off.
    Oh well.

hubby and I have done nothing all weekend except strip wallpaper from the hall stairs and landing. The walls underneath are in a terrible state and the plaster has come away to the brickwork in places so it looks like our work has only just begun. The whole house is a state because there is paper and bits of plaster everywhere and I am so glad that this is the last place to decorate in our new home. Hopefully soon we will be able to enjoy the place instead of constantly doing DIY though everybody keeps telling us that as soon as you finish you find another job to do.
