Budget holiday mid/late September

I want to book a holiday in Devon mid/late September with a friend "on a budget". We don't want to camp or stay at a caravan site, a chalet/self-catering holiday would be fine, or maybe a cheap and cheerful B&B or discounted hotel.

Anyone been anywhere that's really good value or know of any really good deals??

Lastminute.com in the holidays section have reasonably priced holiday cottages for that time of year. My friend thoroughly recommended them to me when she went to Scotland in February through them.

Alternatively, if you look in the travel sections of the Daily Mail/Saturday Telegraph/Sunday Times they have some private holiday cottages. Alternatively, try looking through "The Lady" magazine - always plenty of cheap choice in there. Not sure what the quality is like, but it's got plenty of choice!
