British gas deal - is it a deal?

Hi
Im not sure whether this is the right board to post this, so apologies

I've recently signed contracts for a new rental apartment.
Our landlord has asked us whether its possible to keep to the deal they are already on with british gas. This deal is 80 pounds a month for gas, electric & water.

The flat is 2 bedrooms, fairly modern (double glazing) & above another flat. There are 2 of us, but we work full time, so are out of the house.

The flat that we are currently living in, is 1 bedroom, above a car park, double glazing (but a few gaps so could see the draft) & all electric, so we had to use the emersion heater without a timer for our showers/ hot water.
We are/were paying 70 pounds a month (although another hundred every quarter).

Im really not sure whether this 80 pound british gas deal is any good. Im worried that if we say no, it could end up being more expensive.

What do you think?
Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There is no such deal with British Gas as they have nothing to do with water supply.

BG also have no fixed price deal for gas and electricity(i.e. you pay £80 regardless of what you use.)

You need to find out a bit more about the deal.

Sounds like your DDs will just be the same as the landlords/previous occupants. But DD is just payment on accound - if you go over you'll still have to pay for the additional units used.
:D Make a list of important things to do today. At the top, put 'eat chocolate'. Now, you'll get at least one thing done today. :D

I'd get the statements for gas & electricity ( & water) and check how much the landlord is paying.
You'd probably find you can get a cheaper deal if you go for an online plan, and it's always safer to get them in your name.
I'm not saying this is happening to you, but I've seen cases where a landlord gets the tenant to pay off a debt by keeping the bills in their name.

    Thank you for your replies.
Ill find out a bit more & then post again.

BTW I also found a lovely note under the door from the council. It was explaining that I had missed a visit from the pest control. !!!!!!!
It had nice little pics of rats, cockroaches & ants. Not sure which pest my new rented flat has yet. First Ive heard of it :-(

Forgot to say. The wall heaters are leaking a bit. Would this affect the price of the gas bill?

If gas wall heaters(????) are leaking a bit, you won't have to worry about paying a bill(for anything - ever) soon!!!

Ok I have some more info as I wasnt the one who spoke to our landlord.

The 80 pounds per month would include water, gas & electric (the electric & gas are through British gas & I assume the water is thames water).
We would pay this straight to our landlord in addition to our rent.

I was wondering what I would expect to pay for gas, electric & water for a 2 bedroom flat if I didnt take up this "deal"?

    Thanx

Are there meters in the flat/hall for your own usage?
And does this deal mean that you can use as much as you like?

It reads as though the flat is not separately metered and the landlord doesn't want to pay for a separate supply to be installed.
Do you have control of the heating, or is it controlled by the landlord?

I would have thought that £80 for a 2 bed property for all Gas, Electricity and water charges was a good deal.

The average property pays over £1,000 a year for gas and electricity alone. Being out at work all day it would probably be less.

Water would normally be in the region of £200 to £300.

You might save a little by being very careful, but I suspect very little - if anything.
