    hello!

I have some marigolds which are about 3 ins tall. How near to my carrot seedlings should I plant them? The seedlings are in 2 drills approx 12 cm apart, can they go in between? They are in a big square plastic tub, but I'm not sure there'd be room anywhere else!

    TIA,

    Weezl x

The issue with carrots is that you need to put something that smells different around the carrots, not in amongst them. So, plant your marigolds on the outside of the carrots, and deadhead regularly/pick the off leaf off regularly as they are there to exude smell and disguise any carrot smalls. I don't know how your carrot seedlings are, so if you plant them about 6-8 inches away, you shouldn't go far wrong. If the marigolds get too big, chop them back.

With other veg, where you are trying to attract other beneficial insects in, and to make use of the root excretions to keep bugs away, plant in amongst other veg.
