Hi
I am in receipt of incapacity benefit, hubby works full time, and we claim wtc and ctc and cb, would we be better of if I came of my ib and we just claimed tax credits, this is hubbys idea, not sure if we should stay as we are, we do not qualify for any free prescription, dentist or optitions, any advice appreciated.

I suppose it might depend on how many kids you have, and other factors, but i`d be wary,as if you later decided to go back on I/B you would probably not have the right N.I. credits, and as your OH works you wouldnt qualify for I/S.
Just another thought, have you been ill for sometime?would your care and or mobility needs not warrant a DLA claim?0 -
IB classes as an income, you'd be likely worse off overall. Your tax credits would increase possibly but I doubt by as much as your IB is worth. Try putting what your incomes would be into entitledto.com. Your NI credits are paid aswell while on IB.One day I might be more organised...........

Your better off as you are. Regarding the perscriptions charges etc you may qualify to have these for free. You need to locate a form HC1 - It should be available from your GP, Dentist, Boots or even online. Its a means test form for percriptions0

For every £1 of IB you get you 'loose' 55p of tax credit.
You'd only get free prescriptions etc if he earns under £15,0500 -

Surely IB counts towards income as after 28 weeks it becomes taxable.
So income between the two of them would have to be under £15,050 as I earn under that but have a husband on IB and DLA and we don't get free prescriptions. I know that DLA does not count towards income or is taxable.
